Our Rooms

Mermaids

This room caters for our youngest age group, children aged between 2 and 3 years of age, in an adult:child ratio of 1:6. The room has a nappy changing room inside. A fully supervised sleep/rest time is incorporated into the daily routine, along with mealtimes. As with all our age groups, the curriculum in this room is child led and aims at developing children’s social skills and interactions. We use a key worker system, so that children and their families have a special adult that they can deal with. Children are observed at play, and activities that are based on their interests are planned in order to develop and expand on that interest. Gross and fine motor skills are developed through indoor and outdoor activity.

Genies

This bright, spacious room is one of our fulltime rooms, and is home to one of Kidorama’s ECCE sessions in the mornings. The room holds 22 ECCE children. Children engage in a daily routine which is planned and based on the needs of the group, with lots of age-appropriate activities. The routine may change based on the weather, the children’s needs and/or spontaneous learning opportunities. Each day will involve some Free Play, Garden Play, Group Activity and Circle Time.

Our curriculum is a PLAY BASED curriculum, guided by AISTEAR and SÍOLTA. AISTEAR is the Irish National Curriculum Framework and is also the Irish word for ‘journey’. We believe that each child is on their own personal developmental journey, and as such, all have individual needs and interests. Age appropriate material and activities develop your child’s concentration, hand/eye co-ordination, confidence and independence to name but a few. If you require more information on material or method, please ask. You can also find further information about Aistear here. SÍOLTA is the Irish National Quality Framework and guides us in providing quality care.

In the afternoon, some of the ECCE children stay on for the full day.

Unicorns

This room is also for our full time ECCE children and ECCE session. As well as the usual play equipment available for the children, this room has the added benefit of having a small outdoor area for the Unicorn Room’s exclusive use. This has a sandpit and messy play area and is ideal for children to get some fresh air while they engage in play with other children.

Outside Areas

We have a wonderful garden and a large fully equipped playground. A fun safe playground with slides, climbing frames and obstacle course.

Outdoor play is considered a valuable part of children’s development and is included and planned for in the same way as other parts of our curriculum. When outside, children have lots of opportunities to move around more freely than in the classroom environment, allowing them to further develop and enhance their gross motor skills. They can engage in imaginative play with their friends, and learn about the natural world, with planting activities, sand and water play, as well as experiencing the changing seasons first hand.

Afternoon Activities

School aged children are very active and love to be involved in choosing their activity. At Kidorama, we offer your child a structured, but flexible, activity schedule.

We have an indoor activity programme with organised activities such as arts and crafts, board games, football tournaments, baking, science experiments, group projects, music, and dance.

Children have an input in to activities, creating a programme where the interests of the children are being nurtured and developed. Staff respect and encourage the children to have their say.

We aim to spend time in the fresh air every day when it is possible. Outdoor play will be provided in our two outdoor areas, complete with climbing equipment to help develop motor skills and balance.

Homework

This is a very important part of school life, and it’s a task we take very seriously. An area of the room is designated as the ‘quiet, homework zone’ away from the distracting hustle and bustle of active play and planned activities. Staff will supervise and lend a hand where necessary. The only part of homework that parents will need to do at home is reading. Any problems with the homework will be communicated to parents by staff. Children who are tired after a long day’s concentrating in school are free to relax in our library area, with cushions and blankets, just as they might do at home. When they are ready, they can return to the group.
